Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
